Palma / Ciudad Jardin
Ciudad Jardin is a district of Palma about 5 km southeast between Es Molinar and Cala Gamba
The proximity to the airport and the center of Palma de Mallorca make Ciudad Jardin a popular place for both locals and tourists. Many locals come here to at the weekend to just sit outside with friends and family or to sit in one of the many cafés and restaurants along the beach promenade. The beautiful and long sandy beach, located between Palma de Mallorca and Playa de Palma, is ideal for children due to the low waves. Fine, white sand and a shallow entry into the water are another safety factor.
Along the beach promenade, especially in the Portixol district, many houses have been renovated extensively up to a very high standard and are now achieving the highest prices and is has become a very popular area to live. You also find here a number of nice cafes and restaurants with a view of the beach and the harbor. On weekends it is often difficult to get a free spot here when the weather is nice.
Ciudad Jardin has a very nice and smooth sandy beach, bordered by the beach promenade, which is popular with locals on weekends, as well as the cafés located there. Here you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and the view of Palma as well as the open sea to the fullest whilst having a snack or dinner.
The residents of Palma in particular appreciate this beach, as it is only 4 km outside the city center and is easily accessible by public transport. The beach offers fine white sand and the water quality is good. Due to the proximity to the airport, a little more noise must be expecte. Access is barrier-free and there is a large children's playground and fitness trail on the promenade. Parking is available directly behind the promenade or you can simply take the bus. Be careful when parking and buy a parking ticket if necessary, otherwise it can quickly become expensive. The meter maids control regularly in Palma and the outside areas.
From Ciudad Jardin you have very good connections to the capital Palma de Mallorca and the southwestern towns along the coast, such as Santa Ponsa, Illetas, Bendinat, Paguera or Port Andratx. The capital Palma de Mallorca is always worth a visit and offers many sights, such as the cathedral, the market halls of Palma - the Mercado de Olivar, the Castell de Bellver, many museums, the Pueblo Espanol and much more.
As on many other beaches and bays on the island, various water sports are also offered at Playa Ciudad Jardin such as SUP (stand-up padelling), surfing pedal boats and much more. You can also hire a bicycle and explore the city center or take a nice bikeride along the coastline while enjoying the great scenery.
MARKETS & CELEBRATIONS
The town itself offers no market but in Palma there are several markets a week where you can buy local specialties such as fruits and vegetables or even clothes and handicrafts. The Mercat de L’Olivar, located right in the heart of Palma, is definitely worth seeing. Fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, various ham specialties as well as fish and seafood are offered in several halls. Many of the delicacies can also be tried on site.
