The town of Algaida with its approximately 5.300 inhabitants is situated east of Palma and north of Llucmajor in the southern area of Mallorca. The villages Pinda and Randa also belong to the community of Algaida. On the mountain top of Randa, approximately 548 meters high, you find the monastery „Santuari Senyora de Cura de Randa” also called “Satuari de la Mare de Déu de Cura”. From here you have an absolute stunning view over the island up to the coast in the south on a clear day.
Every friday from 9am to 12 pm is market-day in Algaida. Many locals offer their regional products, such as fruits and vegetable, cheese and local sausages or other meat products as well as clothes and other various products. For many locals it is a time to simply get together and have a coffee or some tapas in one of the many cafés around the market place and have a chat with friends and neighbors.
Just shorty before Algaida coming from the direction of Palma you also find the oldest glassblowing of the island, owned by the family named Gordiola. Here you may watch them performing al sorts of glassblowing products and of course you are more then welcome to purchase some as souvenirs.
The nearest golf course is the golf club Son Gual, just north of Palma. Many beaches are to be found around Algaida on the coast, and the town is also a good base for cyclists who like to explore the beautiful island on the many excellent cycling paths.
